The gathering marked the first high‑level coordination between the two divisions ahead of the jurisdictional transfer.

The primary agenda was to ensure a seamless transition of control and daily operations of the Mangalore Railway Region from Palakkad to Mysuru, guaranteeing that train services continue without hiccups from October 1 onward. Discussions covered operational coordination, asset hand‑over, record management, control arrangements, staffing, and related logistical issues. Palakkad Division highlighted that most of its major workshops, coaching and ballast depots, as well as engineering, maintenance, and electrical units are based in Mangalore, and it has requested continued access until comparable facilities are established within its new jurisdiction.

The coaching depot, a backbone for Southern Railway’s north‑Kerala and Tamil Nadu routes, handles primary maintenance for roughly 20 pairs of passenger trains daily. Palakkad also converted the old Bunder goods shed—about 10 acres—into a ballast depot to supply track ballast up to Kannur, and wishes to keep using this asset.

Mysuru Division assured that any existing assets will be optimally utilized for public benefit. The meeting also examined standing contracts across commercial, mechanical, electrical, and coach‑maintenance departments, exploring options to either terminate or extend them based on operational needs.
