During a high‑level preparatory meeting at Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha on Friday, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar affirmed that Karnataka will not diminish its flagship cultural event – the Mysuru Dasara – for 2026. He outlined an 11‑day programme that will feature the Gajapooja on August 26, the Dasara inauguration on October 11, and the Jumboo Savari along with Nandi Pooja on October 21.

Festival Blueprint and New Initiatives

The government has ordered the formation of an executive committee to oversee logistics, security, and cultural programming. The committee will recommend dignitaries to inaugurate the festivities, with the final nod resting with the Chief Minister. Shivakumar also revealed that the state will approach the Centre for permission to stage an air‑show, aiming to elevate the festival’s international profile.

Environmental Concerns and Water Situation

Addressing recent drought‑related criticism, the Chief Minister highlighted that recent rainfall has alleviated drinking‑water shortages in several districts. He assured that there will be no water crisis this year and that farmers’ grievances will be addressed within the existing legal framework.

Cultural, Tourism and Economic Impact

Mysuru Dasara is a cornerstone of Karnataka’s cultural identity, driving significant tourism growth in recent years. The administration credits schemes such as the Shakti free‑bus travel for women for boosting visitor footfall. This year’s schedule will include performances by leading artists, traditional dance, and sports events, promising a further boost to the local economy.

Shivakumar cautioned against politicising the committee’s formation, emphasizing consultation with elected representatives and stakeholders. He pledged to showcase Karnataka’s diverse traditions through an expanded cultural and sporting programme, reinforcing social cohesion and celebrating the state’s rich heritage.
