The most conspicuous change was the removal of any reference to TVK, a name that doubles as Vijay’s on‑screen persona and his political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam.

Key Change: TVK Eradicated

In the narrative, Vijay’s character is called Thalapathy Vetri Kondan, abbreviated to TVK. Outside the film, TVK is synonymous with the party Vijay founded. According to the certification note at time‑code 110:23, the dialogue "Ambedkar satam… to… TVK sattam" was completely replaced, and the TVK acronym was excised from both audio and visual tracks. The edit was muted rather than cut, preserving the film’s runtime.

Additional Audio‑Visual Edits

The board’s report listed numerous other alterations:

• The line about Ambedkar appearing on a book cover was re‑phrased without changing its length.
• The visual of the Indian flag falling to the ground was deleted.
• Words such as "Bhagavatham" and "Ranganathar" were muted.
• Terms like "OM" and the phrase "New India" used while describing Operation Meluha were stripped out.
• Scenes referencing the hanging of Saddam Hussein were either muted or replaced.
• A disrespectful roll‑down of a DC’s badge or gig was removed and substituted with a neutral visual.

Muted Dialogues and Sensitive Content

Several spoken lines were entirely muted, including "Ponnoda… kudthu vachirukkum, Udambu erukirunu" and "India n kalla virala vaikarne". Graphic imagery of child burning was replaced, the term "Siluvaila" was muted, and wherever the name "Sheela Rani" appeared it was substituted with an alternative.

Current Status of the Film

After all cuts, the film now runs for 3 hours and 3 minutes. An official release date has not been announced yet, though industry sources anticipate a theatrical debut on July 23 or 24.

Background and Legal Turmoil

Initially slated for a January 9 release ahead of Pongal, Jana Nayagan was submitted to the CBFC on December 19, 2025. The examining committee demanded extensive modifications, prompting a resubmission that was initially cleared for a U/A certificate. However, an internal complaint from a committee member sent the film back to a revising panel. KVN Productions approached the Madras High Court for expedited certification, but the case lingered, eventually reaching the Supreme Court before being withdrawn.

Complicating matters, a high‑definition copy of the film leaked online in April, leading Tamil Nadu police to arrest several individuals, including a freelance editor. The prosecution later informed the court that roughly 12 million viewers had accessed the pirated version before it was taken down. The leak fueled speculation, and a fake CBFC certificate claiming an A rating circulated widely on social media.

Despite the setbacks, the film’s star‑studded cast—featuring Vijay, Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, and Narain—has kept audience anticipation high.
