Telugu cinema’s rising star Akhil Akkineni describes the triumph of his latest film ‘Lenin’ not merely as a box‑office milestone but as a personal breakthrough. The movie crossed a net ₹61 crore in its first weekend, ending a three‑year waiting period and delivering the acknowledgment he has been chasing since his 2015 debut.

From Urban Glamour to Rural Roots

Akkineni admitted that a string of urban‑centric scripts had taken his career off course. “I wanted my next film to connect with my roots – the place of my grandfather, my father, the soil of Rayalaseema,” he told SCREEN. This realization steered him toward ‘Lenin’, a rural action drama that promised authenticity over the over‑used city backdrop.

Preparing for the Role

Director Murali Kishor Abburu and Akkineni spent roughly two months in workshops, trial shoots, and dialect coaching to master the Rayalaseema accent. “I had to overhaul my look, skin tone, and body language,” Akkineni explained. The rigorous preparation gave him a clear vision of the character before stepping onto the set, eliminating the need for on‑spot discovery.

Physical and Emotional Toll of the Climax

The most demanding segment was the pre‑climax and climax block, filmed over seven to eight consecutive days. Akkineni’s character loses his eyesight, requiring a delicate balance of action and vulnerability. “The sequence was mentally and physically draining – I was exhausted for days after shooting,” he confessed. Yet, the intensity paid off, with critics praising his performance as a testament to his dedication.

Family, Fans, and Future Plans

Akkineni’s family reacted with “happy tears,” reflecting the collective effort behind the film. He also noted that the script was not originally written for him; about ten percent was reshaped to suit his persona, including tweaks to the heroine’s role. Looking ahead, he says the success of ‘Lenin’ sharpens, rather than alters, his focus: delivering performances that earn respect, rooted in genuine storytelling.
