Amid the thudding of a drum kit in a modest home studio, five musicians are rehearsing The Scorpions’ “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” a signature track from the 1980s. This is the sound of the Madras Rock Collective (MRC), a Chennai‑based group determined to revive the era’s iconic rock anthems.

Bassist Mario Nambiar notes that the band’s first gig was only in April this year, though each member has been active in the music scene for at least two decades. Drummer Rahul Gopal, a BITS Pilani graduate, previously played with Little Babushkas Grind.

Lead vocalist Aakash Jacob, a banker and front‑man of Rusty Moe, brings a gritty voice that captures the rebellious spirit of 80s rock, a passion he cultivated at Madras Christian College. On August 7, from 8:45 pm, the band will perform at Bay 146, The Savera Hotel, RK Salai, delivering hits from Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Toto, Journey, Mr Big, Extreme, The Scorpions, plus select Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi tracks. Tickets start at ₹250 and admission is restricted to ages 21 and above.
