A stampede broke out during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, killing 41 people and injuring over 100. The tragedy was caused by several factors, including poor planning and alleged security lapses.

The rally was organized by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party's president, actor-turned-politician Vijay. However, he arrived at the gate several hours late, leading to a surge in the crowd and a subsequent attack. Several people were injured and many lost their lives in the attack.
