BENGALURU: In a sweeping anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta has conducted simultaneous searches at over 53 locations across the state. The raids were executed in connection with disproportionate assets (DA) cases registered against 10 government officers, uncovering a staggering wealth totaling approximately ₹49.83 crore.

Breakdown of Disproportionate Assets

According to official statements from the Lokayukta, the seized assets are categorized into immovable and movable properties. The investigation revealed that the accused officers held ₹37.95 crore in immovable assets, including residential houses, commercial buildings, and vast tracts of agricultural land. Additionally, ₹11.88 crore worth of movable assets, comprising cash, gold, silver ornaments, luxury vehicles, and fixed deposits, were identified. This marks the second major crackdown since D.K. Shivakumar assumed office as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.

High-Profile Targets and Findings

The raid targeted officials across various departments, highlighting the deep-seated nature of the alleged corruption. Among the notable findings, Pushpa D.R., Additional Director (Admin) at the Agricultural Marketing Board, was found to possess immovable assets worth ₹7.37 crore. Similarly, Narendra Kumar M, an Assistant Engineer in the Public Works Department (PWD), had assets valued at ₹5.75 crore. The list of officers spans from forest officials in Chitradurga to engineers in Gulbarga, indicating a widespread pattern of illicit wealth accumulation.

Context of Ongoing Investigations

This massive operation follows closely on the heels of another significant raid conducted just a day prior. In that instance, Lokayukta officials targeted three officials, including the Special Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru district, regarding the alleged illegal allotment of 13 acres of government land to private entities. The agency has seized numerous documents from both official offices and private residences, and officials have confirmed that a comprehensive forensic investigation is underway to trace the full extent of the financial irregularities.
