In a dramatic turn of events, the manhunt for the prisoners who staged a daring escape from the Kalaburagi Central Prison on Tuesday has led to a violent encounter. On Wednesday morning, police successfully apprehended one of the three fugitives, identified as 28-year-old Santosh Basappa Metre, following a brief confrontation near the Kapnoor Industrial Area.

The Encounter Details

According to official police statements, Santosh, who was incarcerated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, attempted to evade arrest by attacking personnel with a sharp-edged weapon. To prevent his escape and ensure the safety of the officers, Farhatabad Police Inspector Hussain Basha opened fire, injuring the accused. Both the injured officer and the prisoner have been rushed to the Gulbarga Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) for emergency medical treatment.
