Minister for Social Welfare K. Jegadeshwari on Thursday officially inaugurated the Uyir — Fireworkers’ Family Welfare and Rehabilitation Trust in Virudhunagar. This trust, established under the Virudhunagar District Innovative Scheme 'Uyir', is designed to provide a comprehensive support system for the wards of workers who lost their lives in hazardous fireworks unit accidents.

During the event, the Minister distributed notebooks, bags, and stationery to 83 students. In a significant move to promote academic excellence, cheques totaling ₹18,864 were handed over to four students pursuing higher education, in the presence of Virudhunagar Collector N.O. Sukhaputra. This intervention addresses the immediate socio-economic vacuum created by the loss of a primary breadwinner.
