Indraprastha Vikas Party (IVP), a breakaway faction that split from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in May 2025, formally merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday at the Delhi BJP office. The ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi BJP President Harsh Malhotra.

IVP emerged after 13 councillors, led by Mukesh Goyal and Hemchand Goyal, resigned from AAP citing “disillusionment” with the party’s leadership. They argued that operating as a separate entity limited their ability to deliver comprehensive development to their wards.

With the addition of the 16 IVP councillors, BJP’s tally in the 250‑member Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) surged to 139 seats, up from 123 the previous year. Three IVP leaders were also nominated for chairperson, deputy‑chairperson, and standing committee positions across 12 ward committees ahead of the July 15 elections, signaling a strategic consolidation.
