Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath strongly defended the sanctity of Ayodhya following controversy over the alleged theft of donations at the newly constructed Ram Temple. Speaking at an event in Lucknow, the Chief Minister acknowledged that the incident had deeply hurt the sentiments of millions of Lord Ram devotees worldwide. However, he warned that the unfortunate episode should not be weaponized by political opponents to tarnish the image of Ayodhya or the historic Ram Janmabhoomi movement.

Swift Administrative Action and Accountability

Addressing the allegations, Adityanath emphasized his government’s prompt and transparent response. Following a formal request from the Temple Trust, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the matter. The investigation, aided by CCTV footage, led to the arrest of six individuals involved in the theft, along with their accomplices. Furthermore, demonstrating high moral accountability, Ram Temple Trust General Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra tendered their resignations. Yogi questioned why the opposition continues to attack the faith of Hindus despite such decisive actions.

In a direct offensive against the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP), the Chief Minister accused them of political opportunism and historical double standards. He pointed out the irony of political parties suddenly expressing concern for Hindu faith when they had historically opposed the temple's construction. "Those who once filed affidavits in the Supreme Court claiming Lord Ram and Lord Krishna never existed are today lecturing us on devotion," Adityanath remarked, referring to past legal stances taken during the protracted temple-mosque dispute.

Adityanath further criticized the opposition's past governance, accusing them of restricting Hindu festivals like the Kanwar Yatra, Ram Navami, and Krishna Janmashtami, while selectively permitting other religious activities. He brought up past incidents of communal tension, asserting that those who "looted the nation's treasury" through various scams during their respective tenures at the Center and in Uttar Pradesh have no moral authority to question the financial integrity of the temple's administration.
