The Pariyathukavu settlement has been embroiled in a protracted land‑ownership battle for decades. After the late Kannatt Sankaran Nair secured legal title to a 2.69‑acre parcel, his heirs agreed to allocate five cents of land to each of the seven Dalit families, ending a series of 15 eviction attempts that followed a Supreme Court order. The amicable settlement paved the way for the government’s rehabilitation plan.

Government Initiative and Project Details

Under the “Pariyathukavu Unnathi” project, the state will fund the construction of 1,000‑sq‑ft homes, each featuring three bedrooms, attached bathrooms, a dining hall, a living room, a sit‑out area, and a kitchen. The houses are slated for completion within one year under strict government supervision, and each family has been allotted five cents of land with road access.

Political Collaboration and Future Commitments

Minister John emphasized, “Supporting marginalized sections of society is the policy of the State government,” attributing the project’s success to coordinated efforts among the Chief Minister, district administration, and a legal team headed by the Advocate General. He also pledged that the government will continue to provide social, economic, and educational assistance to the families even after the houses are built.
