Uttarakhand Chief Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has issued a stern warning following allegations of theft regarding temple offerings at the sacred Badrinath Dham. Expressing deep anguish, Dhami equated the act of siphoning temple donations to grave sins like matricide and cow slaughter. He emphasized that the spiritual sanctity of the shrine is paramount and no individual, regardless of their stature, will be spared if found guilty.

High-Level Probe Initiated

Speaking to the media after attending a spiritual discourse in Haridwar, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a high-level, three-member inquiry committee. Headed by the Garhwal Commissioner, the panel has been mandated to conduct a thorough and transparent probe into the alleged irregularities. The committee is required to submit its comprehensive report within 15 days, paving the way for stringent legal action.

CCTV Evidence and Suspensions

The controversy erupted on July 3 when a local outfit, the Bhairav Sena, publicly alleged that cash offerings at the Badrinath temple were being stolen. Following the allegations, the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) initiated an internal audit. Based on preliminary findings and CCTV footage, the personal secretary to the temple committee's president was suspended. A formal First Information Report (FIR) has also been registered, and the police are conducting a parallel criminal investigation.

Systemic Reforms and Cultural Significance

Chief Minister Dhami indicated that once the probe report is submitted, the government will undertake a comprehensive review of the temple's administrative and financial management. He hinted at implementing robust digital tracking and tighter security protocols to ensure complete transparency in the handling of devotees' donations. The Char Dham pilgrimage is not only the cultural bedrock of Uttarakhand but also a major economic driver, making the preservation of its integrity a top priority for the state administration.
