The fifth Telangana State Police Sports Meet 2026 was inaugurated on July 8, 2026, at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. For the first time, the event adopted a five‑cluster format, spreading participation across 21 teams and mirroring the structure of the All India Police Games. Anand, who noted that after 35 years of holding police sports events at a single venue, decentralisation was essential for wider engagement.

Introducing the Five‑Cluster Model

The new format divides the force into five regional clusters, each fielding multiple teams. This arrangement is designed to identify promising athletes early, provide them with scientific coaching, nutrition plans, and physiotherapy, and ultimately prepare them for higher‑level contests. Anand emphasized, “Physical fitness and mental resilience are the backbone of an efficient police force. I may retire from policing one day, but I will never stop playing sports.”

Rewards and Motivation

Telangana Police secured 21 medals at the previous edition of the All India Police Games, and officials are confident the tally will rise. Medal‑winning athletes will receive cash awards of ₹3 lakh, ₹2 lakh, and ₹1 lakh for gold, silver, and bronze respectively, along with special salary increments. Senior officers have been urged to scout talent within their units and ensure systematic training and support.

Sporting Schedule

Boxing, wrestling, fencing and other indoor events kicked off on the opening day. Cricket matches are slated for Future City in November, while lawn tennis and badminton will be contested at the Telangana Police Academy in September. Additional disciplines—including volleyball, kabaddi, canoeing, kayaking and cycling—will be staged at various venues later in the year.

Film actor Naveen Polishetty, who attended as chief guest, stressed that sport builds both physical and mental resilience. “Participation matters more than winning or losing,” he said, urging police personnel to embrace sportsmanship. Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B. Sumathi echoed the sentiment, highlighting discipline, teamwork, and sporting spirit as integral to policing.

The ceremony also saw the presence of Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, senior officers, students and sports enthusiasts, underscoring the event’s broad appeal.
