Sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have indicated that the door remains wide open for the explosive batsman to make a comeback to the One Day International (ODI) squad, provided he showcases consistent run-scoring form in domestic cricket.

While Suryakumar Yadav has cemented his spot as India's premier T20I batsman and was recently appointed the captain of the shortest format, his ODI career has faced scrutiny. Following a sub-par 2023 ODI World Cup campaign, selectors opted for younger prospects in recent bilateral series. However, the team management, led by head coach Gautam Gambhir, is keen on maintaining a pool of experienced match-winners as India prepares for upcoming ICC events, including the Champions Trophy.

To reclaim his spot in the 50-over format, the 33-year-old dynamic batter will need to grind it out in domestic tournaments such as the Duleep Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
