On Friday, Yeshwantpur Police in Bengaluru arrested Santhosh (34) and Punit Kumar (24), accused of orchestrating a gold chain theft scheme targeting married women. The case surfaced after a complaint by a resident of Gollarahatti on July 12.
Santhosh, who created fake social media profiles to befriending married women, claimed to be a film producer and invited them for dinner. Punit Kumar, presented as his assistant, would then ask the women to remove their mangal sutras, later stealing the chains.
Police uncovered three additional incidents involving the duo. During interrogation, they disclosed storing stolen chains at a jewellery shop in Davangere and a lodge in Sumanahalli.
