IIT Guwahati celebrated its 28th convocation on Sunday, conferring degrees on 2,265 students. The cohort comprised 982 undergraduates, 871 post‑graduates and 412 PhD or dual‑degree (Master’s + PhD) scholars, bringing the total number of alumni since the institute’s inception in 1994 to more than 26,790.

Degree Distribution and Honors

At the undergraduate level, 932 students received BTech degrees while 50 earned a Bachelor of Design (BDes). Post‑graduate awards included 556 MTech, 170 MSc, 60 MDes, 44 MA, 27 MBA and 14 MS (Research) degrees. Four gold medals and eighteen silver medals recognized academic excellence; notably, Saptarshi Mukherjee of the BTech in Data Science & AI program secured the President of India Gold Medal for the highest CPI.

Research, Consultancy & International Partnerships

The convocation address revealed that IIT Guwahati is currently managing around 290 research and consultancy projects with a combined value of approximately ₹300 crore. This robust pipeline underscores the institute’s role as a catalyst for industry‑driven innovation. New collaborations with universities in Japan and the United Kingdom have been forged in artificial intelligence, healthcare, and student mobility, expanding the institute’s global footprint.

New MTech Programme – Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

In a strategic move to meet the nation’s demand for advanced technology talent, IIT Guwahati launched an MTech programme dedicated to Robotics and AI. The course is expected to produce graduates equipped with cutting‑edge skills, feeding directly into India’s growing automation and digital transformation sectors.
