Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, M.B. Patil, announced that the 200‑acre semiconductor park in Phase I of KWIN City will become operational by December 2026. He also highlighted the state's upcoming Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026‑2031, which will focus on integrated clusters for electronic warfare, embedded software and more.
Bengaluru, July 23, 2026 – Speaking at the inaugural session of the 15th Strategic Electronics Summit‑2026, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries M.B. Patil said the 200‑acre semiconductor park in Phase I of Knowledge, Wellbeing and Innovation (KWIN) City is slated to be fully operational by December this year.
Patil emphasized that the state’s upcoming Aerospace and Defence Policy 2026‑2031 will place strong emphasis on building integrated clusters for advanced electronic warfare systems, embedded software, electric vertical take‑off and landing (e‑VTOL) technologies and payloads for the space sector.
“Two years ago, the government approved investments of ₹23,000 crore in the semiconductor and advanced Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sectors, projected to generate over 3,500 high‑skilled engineering jobs,” Patil said. “Applied Materials India is investing ₹4,851 crore, Lam Research ₹15,901 crore and Bharat Semi Systems ₹2,342 crore in Karnataka. To complement these investments, we will integrate the state’s MSMEs into the global semiconductor supply chain.”
Patil added that Karnataka’s vision goes beyond manufacturing: “Companies should be able to complete the entire value chain – from design and development to prototyping, testing, certification and export – within the state. The government is fully prepared to partner with industry to achieve this goal.”
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar highlighted the state’s talent pool, noting that more than one lakh engineers graduate annually from 250 engineering colleges, making Karnataka a premier hub for skilled human resources. “With over 900 Global Capability Centers (GCC) and Google’s largest campus outside the U.S. located in Bengaluru, the ecosystem here is unmatched across the country,” he said.
