In a decisive move to bridge the gap between the administration and the rural populace, Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru conducted an extensive field visit to Pandalur taluk on Wednesday. Under the aegis of the 'Ungalai Thedi, Ungal Ooril' (You sought, We reached) scheme, the Collector aimed to evaluate the grassroots-level implementation of various government welfare programs and address public grievances directly.

Strengthening Educational Nutrition

During her visit to the villages of Nelliyalam, Cherangode, and Erumad, the Collector placed a significant emphasis on the nutritional welfare of students. At the Government Panchayat Union Primary School in Cherangode, Ms. Tanneeru meticulously reviewed the Chief Minister’s breakfast scheme. Her inspection included verifying the quality of the food being served to children and cross-checking the food stock registers to ensure transparency and prevent any leakage in the supply chain.

Healthcare Infrastructure Expansion

Recognizing that healthcare is the backbone of rural development, the Collector inspected the Government Primary Health Centre at Cherambadi. She evaluated the availability of essential medicines, the quality of medical services, and the overall hygiene of the facility. Furthermore, she reviewed the progress of an additional hospital building currently under construction at a cost of ₹43 lakh. Highlighting the urgency of the matter, she instructed officials to expedite the construction to ensure that the facility becomes operational for the public at the earliest.

Empowering Marginalized Communities

The administrative sweep extended to the Cherangode Panchayat Office and the local Fair Price Shop, where she ensured that essential commodities were being distributed with correct weights and quality standards. A key highlight of the visit was the inspection of houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Janman Scheme. Each of these homes, constructed at a cost of ₹5.73 lakh, is designed to provide dignified living conditions to tribal and marginalized communities. By interacting directly with the beneficiaries, the Collector was able to assess the real-world impact of these housing initiatives and understand the remaining challenges faced by the residents.
