A devastating collision between a train and a school van at the Karnasubarna railway crossing in Berhampore, Murshidabad district, West Bengal, has resulted in the tragic death of three young students. The accident, which occurred early on Friday morning around 7:00 AM, has left several other children severely injured, casting a deep pall of gloom over the local community.

Local eyewitnesses reported that the school van was transporting students to their school when it proceeded onto the railway tracks. Shockingly, the crossing gates were reportedly open at the time, allowing the vehicle to cross. An oncoming train struck the van with immense force, spinning the vehicle violently and causing instantaneous casualties. Emergency responders and local residents rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped children, transferring the injured to the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital.

Medical professionals at the hospital have indicated that the condition of several injured children remains highly critical, sparking fears that the death toll could rise. The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and grief among the local populace, who are questioning how a school transport vehicle was allowed onto the tracks with an oncoming train.

In the wake of the disaster, Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumder expressed profound grief over the incident. He emphasized the urgent need for a meticulous investigation to pinpoint lapses in safety. "Any loss of life is tragic, but the death of children is even more heartbreaking. A thorough inquiry is necessary, and I believe the Railways will conduct a separate investigation," Majumder stated, calling for accountability from both local authorities and railway officials.
