Basavanthappa, performed the bhoomi puja for a professional theatre Rangayana complex and theatre museum at Kondajji in Davangere district. Alongside MP Prabha Mallikarjun, the Minister laid the foundation stone for this landmark project on Friday.
Speaking at the event, Minister Basavanthappa highlighted the profound historical contribution of the Davangere district to the arts. He noted with concern that traditional rural theatre is facing a decline due to the rising dominance of orchestra and DJ culture. To counter this, the government has pledged to support theatre centres to revive and sustain traditional forms of performance.
Project Scale and Financial Allocation
The proposed complex will span over 10 acres and is envisioned to include a dedicated museum for theatre artistes, a modern auditorium, a theatre hall, and an open-air stage. The total estimated cost of the project is ₹10 crore. Of this, ₹3 crore has already been sanctioned, and an initial installment of ₹1 crore has been released to kickstart the development.
