SIR is the mechanism that updates the voters’ list for people who have shifted residences, changed names, or newly become eligible. Vizianagaram’s electorate numbers roughly 15.78 lakh, of which 15.60 lakh have already received SIR forms. Despite this wide distribution, only three‑quarters of the forms have been uploaded to the central database, leaving a critical gap in the revision process.

Execution of the Special Campaign

District Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy, Deputy Election Commissioner Pavan Kumar Sarma, Joint Collector S. Sedhu Madhavan and senior officials are spearheading the weekend drive. By choosing Saturday and Sunday, officials hope that most voters will be at home, facilitating on‑spot verification and faster digital upload. The team has been instructed to maintain absolute transparency and to prevent any irregularities during the collection and entry of data.

Political Reactions

The opposition YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has raised concerns that names of Scheduled Castes, minorities and other vulnerable groups could be omitted to advantage the ruling NDA coalition. YSRCP Vizianagaram district president Majji Srinivasa Rao urged party cadres to monitor the process closely and ensure that enumeration forms reach booth‑level officers accurately.
