On Monday, a truck travelling at high speed struck a procession of warkaris participating in the Ashadhi Wari on the Saswad‑Jejuri Road in Pune district. Police reports indicate that the truck was carrying warkaris from Nanded district, while the pilgrim group originated from Kasbedigraj in Sangli district. The crash claimed the lives of three devotees – Rajshree Shankar Bhosale (62), Madhavi Rajaram Sarwade (55) and Nanda Pawar (52) – and left ten others with varying degrees of injuries.

The Ashadhi Wari is a massive religious procession that commences on July 8 from the Dnyaneshwar Maharaj palkhi in Alandi and on July 7 from the Tukaram Maharaj palkhi in Dehu. According to preliminary findings by Pune Police, the truck lost control due to excessive speed, leading to the fatal impact. Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar visited the Rural Hospital in Jejuri, met the survivors, and reviewed the medical care being administered. All injured pilgrims are receiving free treatment under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana, which covers medicines, diagnostics, and specialist services.
