In a landmark decision, the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by CM Samrat Choudhary, has greenlit the preparation of DPRs for four Regional Rapid Transit System corridors to modernize state connectivity.

PATNA: In a decisive move to overhaul the state's urban mobility framework, the Bihar Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, has accorded in-principle approval for the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for four major Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors. This initiative aims to establish a high-speed, reliable, and environmentally sustainable commuter rail network across the state.

A New Era of Regional Connectivity

The cabinet has sanctioned an estimated expenditure of ₹31.59 crore for the Alternative Analysis Report (AAR) and DPR preparation. The technical mandate has been entrusted to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The proposed corridors are strategically designed to link Patna with key economic and cultural hubs, including:

  • Patna–Gaya Ji Corridor
  • Patna Airport–Begusarai Corridor
  • Patna–Hajipur–Sonepur Airport–Muzaffarpur Corridor
  • Patna Airport–Ara Corridor

Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra emphasized that the decision responds to the rapid urbanization of Patna and the escalating passenger traffic, noting that the RRTS will facilitate the growth of satellite townships and seamless last-mile connectivity.

Expansion of Healthcare and Educational Infrastructure

Beyond transport, the cabinet meeting resulted in 22 significant decisions. A major highlight is the approval for land acquisition worth ₹348.89 crore to expand AIIMS Patna. This expansion will include a Super Specialty Block and an Eye Centre, significantly enhancing tertiary healthcare capabilities in the region.

In the realm of education, the government approved the creation of 76 teaching posts across 10 government engineering colleges to bolster M.Tech programs. Furthermore, the 'Mukhya Mantri Swayam Sahayta Bhatta Yojana' (Self-Help Allowance Scheme) has been extended for another five years (2026-2031), ensuring continued social security for the youth. The cabinet also facilitated the establishment of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Madhubani, Munger, and Muzaffarpur by providing land at a token amount.
