Once outside, the group moved onto the Chengalpattu‑Orakkattupettai Road, where they stopped passing motorists, assaulted them and stole two‑wheelers, mobile phones and cash. Several victims reported injuries and loss of property.

About ten days earlier, a violent clash between two groups led to charges against 19 inmates, and five youths escaped during that incident. Preliminary investigations by Chengalpattu Taluk Police confirm that twelve inmates escaped. The absconding youths hail from Chennai, Namakkal, Coimbatore, Theni and other districts. Early Monday, officers apprehended a 19‑year‑old from K.K. Nagar who returned home intoxicated after the escape. He was taken to the Taluk Police Station for questioning.
