In a significant move aimed at easing the financial burden on families, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has announced that the government is taking active steps to increase the allowance provided to government school students for stitching their uniforms.

Addressing Economic Realities

Currently, the Union Territory administration provides uniform materials along with a fixed stipend of ₹300 to cover stitching expenses. However, the administration has acknowledged growing concerns from parents and students that this amount has become insufficient in the face of rising inflation and the increasing cost of tailoring services. By addressing these grievances, the government aims to ensure that every student has access to properly fitted school attire without undue financial stress on their households.

Commemorating a Legacy of Education

The announcement was made during the 'Students’ Day' celebrations, organized by the Directorate of School Education to honor the birth anniversary of the legendary former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, K. Kamaraj. Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government's priority remains the welfare and educational infrastructure of the territory. He further noted that the administration is looking into reviving the scheme to provide millet-based snacks to schoolchildren, a move designed to bolster nutritional standards in government institutions.

The event was graced by Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan, who lauded the legacy of K. Kamaraj. The Lt. Governor remarked that Kamaraj’s visionary policies, particularly in the education sector, continue to serve as a blueprint for progressive governance. Additionally, Chief Minister Rangasamy assured that any operational shortcomings within the functioning of government schools would be identified and rectified in the coming days to ensure a seamless learning environment.
