The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe is developing a large solar project to supply clean energy to a new Meta data center. This initiative marks a significant shift from the tribe's oil and gas revenue. Renewable energy developers face policy uncertainties and permitting challenges. The tribe secured approvals before new federal regulations took effect. Over the next 18 months, the project will install solar panels capable of generating 270 megawatts of electricity along with 180 megawatts of battery storage. Part of the electricity generated will power a new data center being built by Meta Platforms near Albuquerque, New Mexico.
