The Sarhad Shauryathon, jointly organised by the Sarhad Foundation and the Indian Army, was flagged off by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Shinde in Drass on July 6. The event saw the participation of around 3,000 runners. Shri Shinde addressed a programme at the Drass District Hospital earlier in the day. He said that Shiv Sena has donated a CT scan machine and an ambulance to the hospital. Maharashtra Minister of State Yogesh Kadam, Shiv Sena State Organisation Chief Anand Paranjape, Ladakh MP Haji Mohammad Hanifa, and Sarhad Foundation President Sanjay Nahar were present. Shri Shinde said that the party has undertaken several public welfare initiatives in Kashmir under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. He mentioned the installation of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Kupwara and a contribution of ₹3 crore to the Kargil War Memorial. He said that the party fulfils its promises. He said that Eknath Shinde had travelled to Kashmir after the Pahalgam terror attack and arranged for the return of stranded tourists from Maharashtra. The party had built a house for the family of Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who died while saving tourists. Following the marathon, Shri Shinde visited the Kargil War Memorial and paid tribute to soldiers.
