On Thursday, Principal District and Sessions Judge Manjunatha G.A. inaugurated a new legal services clinic within the premises of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) in Shivamogga. This marks the first time a legal aid facility has been set up inside a CWC in the state.

Background and Purpose

The clinic is part of the “Kids‑First Legal Services Scheme‑2024”, aimed at simplifying access to justice for children and women. M.S. Santhosh, Member Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, explained that an experienced advocate will be present every Monday and Wednesday to offer consultations to those seeking assistance at the CWC.

Judge Manjunatha emphasized that “every child deserves proper care and education, and this clinic will help ensure they receive the justice they truly deserve.” His remarks underscored that the initiative is not merely about legal advice but a holistic approach to child welfare.

The CWC Chairperson Tajuddin Khan and Child Protection Officer Shashirekha were also present, highlighting the clinic’s importance for victims of crime. They urged the public to call the toll‑free National Legal Services Authority helpline 15100 for further guidance.

By establishing this model, the state opens the door for similar setups across other districts, potentially transforming how children and women access legal support nationwide.
