On July 11, 2026, at Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar inaugurated 32 mobile Forensic Science Laboratories (FSLs) alongside 75 new police jeeps. The ceremony, attended by Home, IT, Biotechnology and e‑Governance Minister Priyank Kharge, highlighted the pivotal role of forensic science in accelerating criminal investigations.

Purpose and Functionality of the Mobile Labs

Operating under the Karnataka Police Department, these labs are equipped to reach crime scenes swiftly, allowing on‑site collection and preservation of DNA, biometric, and digital evidence. By minimizing the time between evidence acquisition and analysis, the initiative aims to preserve data integrity and speed up case resolution.

Impact of the New Police Vehicles

The 75 newly added jeeps will enhance the mobility of forensic teams, especially in remote and rural areas where traditional response times have been a bottleneck. The vehicles are specially configured to transport delicate equipment and maintain chain‑of‑custody protocols.

Minister Kharge announced that the government is bolstering regional forensic labs in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Mangaluru, Belagavi and Kalaburagi with cutting‑edge instruments, advanced analytics tools, and highly skilled personnel.
