A beach cleaning drive has been launched in Nagapattinam district under the auspices of Namma Nagai Kootam, an informal voluntary group. Collector K. J. Praveen Kumar inaugurated the campaign at the Nagore beach on Sunday. The campaign would be conducted every month, and an exclusive channel created for the group on a messaging platform, he said. "Keeping the beaches clean is not just the responsibility of the administration; the participation of the local people is also important," he said, calling for the cooperation of all sections. Over 300 volunteers, including students and self-help group members, participated in the cleaning drive, an official release said. The Collector also said that various other social campaigns such as blood and book donations would be taken up under the Namma Nagai Kootam. This initiative is a step in the right direction, as it not only focuses on beach cleaning but also involves the local community in the process.
