Previously, the Charlapalli‑Tiruchi Express operated only on a weekly basis, creating chronic shortages of seats, unpredictable timings, and higher fares for commuters. The route—traversing major pilgrimage hubs such as Tirupati, Tiruvannamalai, and Srirangam—serves a large cohort of devotees, students, and patients seeking medical care. Over the years, local political parties, civic groups, and daily commuters have pressed for a full‑time schedule.

Political Advocacy and Ministry Response

Durai Vaiko repeatedly appealed to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and senior officials of the South Central Railway. In response to sustained pressure, the South Central Railway announced in late May that the train would be upgraded to a regular daily service in both directions. The regularisation took effect from July 7 for departures from Charlapalli and from July 8 for the Tiruchi Junction leg.
