Why a Digital Overhaul Is Imperative

Bengaluru has evolved into a global IT hub, attracting multinational corporations, startups and foreign investors. Recognising this economic surge, Kharge stressed that a world‑class traffic management framework is essential to sustain growth. He instructed officials to craft an action plan for the expansive rollout of Intelligent Traffic Management Systems (ITMS), artificial intelligence (AI), smart traffic signals, real‑time monitoring and data‑driven traffic regulation across the most congested arteries.

Safety, Data, and Inter‑Agency Synergy

The minister highlighted the need to pinpoint accident hotspots, enforce traffic laws stringently, give priority to emergency vehicles, and improve pedestrian safety. He underscored that traffic governance is not the sole remit of police forces; coordination with the Greater Bengaluru Authority, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, the Urban Development Department and other stakeholders is crucial for lasting solutions.

Implementation Roadmap and Future Outlook

All Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic) briefed Kharge on current conditions, major bottlenecks, measures already in place, and proposed next steps. The dialogue centered on leveraging modern technology, upgrading infrastructure, and fostering inter‑departmental cooperation to streamline traffic flow. If executed effectively, the initiative could transform Bengaluru into a benchmark smart‑city model for India’s rapidly urbanising landscape.
